Celebration of the World Day of the Sick

The International World Day of the Sick is normally feted each year on February 11th by the Catholic Church. It is a day for prayer, sharing, and reflection on the significance of caring for the sick, both physically and spiritually. This day was established by Pope John Paul II and coincides with the memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, a significant day of devotion to the Virgin Mary.

This year of 2025, the Sisters of Our Lady Queen of Africa-Rwanda have feted this day on 23rd, March at Bethania Home Care in the holy mass led by priest, Fr. Eustache Butare, in the presence of cancer patients, members of local community from the catchment areas, lay people, local leader, Sisters from other communities, etc. The theme of the day was reflecting to the actual message of Pope Francis. In his message for the 33rd World Day of the Sick in 2025, Pope Francis highlights the importance of hope and the role of God’s presence in the lives of people who are suffering. He underlines three ways God is close to the sick: through encounter, gift, and sharing. This message encourages reflection on how God’s grace and providence can strengthen people who are facing illness and hardship, reminding them that they are not alone in their suffering.
